Maya Zahira is a double certified Usui Reiki Master-Teacher and a professional member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals. She holds a degree in education and has more than 20 years experience in the field of education.
While on her own journey of healing, Maya began studying various forms of natural healing. In 1998, Maya received her attunements for Level I and II in the Usui Reiki tradition of healing, and in 1999, she began her energy healing practice. In 2002, she earned the degree of Reiki Master. In 2011, she re-certified in Reiki Levels I, II, Advanced Reiki Training & Reiki Master, and in 2012 she completed the certification for Karuna Reiki® Master. Maya has studied Reiki with various Reiki Masters including Regina Klein, Dawn Rothwell, and Karen Harrison. In completing these certifications, Maya is a Usui Reiki Master Teacher, and a professional member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals.
In 1999, Maya began studying Middle Eastern Dance (belly dance). As she explored this sacred and ancient dance, she began to personally understand its capacity to heal the emotional, spiritual, and physical bodies of women. In 2003, she founded The Maya Zahira School of Belly Dance, an organization that promotes healing for women through the art of belly dance.
In addition, Maya also practices ecstatic/trance dance, with emphasis on the teachings of Gabrielle Roth, as taught by Laura Martin-Eagle.
In 1999, Maya began studying Middle Eastern rhythms as they apply to belly dance. She quickly discovered the healing capacity of drumming and began exploring drum techniques from many traditions. Maya began her training in Helmtone drum therapy in 2007 under the instruction of master drummer and healer, Russell “Buddy” Helm.
Maya believes that she and her clients and students are partners in healing. She works to support and empower each person as they find their own innate ability to heal themselves.
